Just a quick note to let everyone know we will meet on Monday, Aug. 28, at the school, to finalize our plans for the year, and to give new families an opportunity to become familiar with the facility.

Please pray for us, as Sept. 6 draws near! We can't wait to see everyone!

Year 2, Here We Come!

Posted on August 11, 2017 at 11:40 PM Comments comments (0)

Hello SOWers!

As we being our second year together, we are looking forward to seeing familliar and new faces come September!  This summer seems to have flown by, with vacations, planning, and lots of sunshine. Yet, we have enjoyed the chance to meet twice already to plan our format and classes for the fall.

Our first day will be September 6, 2017, and we will again meet at Pax Christi Catholic Church, 4001 Victoria Way, Lexington, Ky.  Our schedule includes a few weeks off each semester to allow us to enjoy field trips or time with family, especially around the Christmas and Easter holidays. The school year ends April 25, 2018.

The format of classes has changed as a result of the energetic discussions and suggestions at our first summer meeting., with Grades PK4/K - 8 coming together for a one-room school presentation, with grade level follow-up activities for each class group. The school day begins at 9 am with mass on the first and third Wednesdays of each month (or our Virtues study on the remaining weeks). Afterward, students will have a short break and recess before the first class begins at 10:15 pm. The second class begins at 11:05 am, followed by lunch/recess from 11:50 am to 1 pm.  Next, students in grades PK4/Kindergarten will gather for an hour and a half of learning in the great "one room school" fashion, with a rotation of four subjects each month. The school day ends at  2:30 pm.

Tuition has not yet been determined, but should not exceed the amount of last year's tuition ($300 for the year).  Registration forms are available on the "Enrollment Forms" page (see tabs above).  Depending on enrollment, tuition may even be less, so if you know friends who are thinking about participating in a Catholic homeschool enrichment program, now's the time to share our information!

Finally, our next planning meeting is tentatively scheduled for August 23 at Pax Christi.  Please hold this spot on your calendar. We would like for everyone to have their applications and deposits ready by this date.  Feel free to invite those friends to come along and check us out!

We're looking forward to seeing everyone soon!

God bless!

Shelia

What a Blessed First Day of Classes!

Posted on September 9, 2016 at 12:20 AM Comments comments (0)

Our first day of classes went extremely well, and our children looked so nice in their uniforms! We're grateful for everyone's patience as we fine-tune our routine, but overall, we're very happy with how things went!  First and foremost, so many of our students stepped up to help us out that we were able to overcome those minor obstacles that we encountered.  Our older students were all super assistants, and even some of our youngest children were there with brooms and rags to help clean up after lunch and to set up and break down tables in the cafeteria.

In the interest of privacy, we've created a private site for sharing photos of our children with participating families.  We hope everyone received the email and could access the pictures of each grade grouping's "first day of class" photos.

Finally, if there are concerns or suggestions, please let us know so we can work to make things even better.  We want this co-op to provide a postive and enriching experience for all of our children.

God bless & see you next week!

Let us pray:

Dearest Jesus, as our school year begins tomorrow, we ask your favor and blessing on all of  us, and on all Christian co-ops and families that seek to share with your little ones the truths your Father has given us through the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the teaching of the Catholic Church. May our efforts this year help us all to grow in love for you and for those around us. Open our eyes and hearts to see as you see, and love as you love. May we daily strive to help our families, teachers and students see the gifts you have given us. Let us be born unto Wonder, Lord. Let us rejoice in you!

Hail Mary...

Our Father...

Glory Be...

Mary, Seat of Wisdom,

Pray for us!

Let us pray:

Dear Jesus, thank you for the many gifts you have given us in our lives. Help us to see the blessings that come, even in trials, so that we may glorify your Father and share His love with others. Please guide the hearts of all our teachers so that they may present well the truths you wish them to share. Please watch over your students, as well, that they may bring their full attention and effort to each class, whether at home or at co-op. May we all work diligently to know you better through the beauty of your creation. Guide us in our quest to encounter and appreciate the good, the true, and the beautiful things you have given us.

Hail Mary...

Our Father...

Glory Be...

Mary, Seat of Wisdom,

Pray for us!

Let us pray:

Dear Jesus, our greatest Friend, we ask for your favors for Seat of Wisdom Homeschool Cooperative and the relationships formed this academic year. Send your Spirit to help us all —adults, teens, and children — to grow in virtuous friendships that place you first in our lives and give glory to your Father in Heaven. May no person feel alone or ignored. May each child feel loved and special. May our conversations bring you glory and give joy to those around us. Mary, Blessed Mother, help us to be a light to all around us through our kindness, caring and attentiveness to all.

Hail Mary...

Our Father...

Glory Be...

Mary, Seat of Wisdom,

Let us pray:

Lord, draw us closer to you, and to each other. Help us always to see others through the eyes of mercy we desire from you. Build in us a community that trusts you and seeks to give you our very best. Help us reject any temptation that leads us away from you, whether it be grumbling, gossip, lethargy, pride or greed. May we instead encourage one another and pray for one another. May we offer solutions, rather than criticism. Give us eyes of mercy, to see others' failings as opportunities of prayer, not stories to share. Help us to build each other up, rather than to tear each other down with our words and thoughts. Help us be a community committed fully to you.

Hail Mary...

Our Father...

Glory Be...

Mary, Seat of Wisdom,

Let us pray:

Jesus, keep us and our children safe from the many evils present around us and within us. Draw our hearts to what is good, pure, and holy. Help us to overcome the parts of our human nature which displease you. Help us to see that our blessings are not in the things we own, the screens we view, the books we read, or the successes we achieve. Help us rather to seek you in the world around us, the words we read, the scenes we view, the songs we sing, and the people we meet. Walk with us on our journey, hear our sighs, share our smiles, and convict our hearts when we are tempted to stray from the path you lay before us. Help us to do your will.

Hail Mary...

Our Father...

Glory Be...

Mary, Seat of Wisdom,

Pray for us!

Let us pray:

Lord, be the ruler of our hearts and our homes. Send your spirit to guide us in our choices, so that we may make the best of the opportunities given us. Grant us the prudence to do what we ought, when we ought, and the wisdom to know when to acknowledge that something greater than laundry or dishes is at stake. Bless us with peace in our homes, among our family members, and in our hearts. Help all in our home to work together and to choose our words wisely, so that we may give you glory and be good examples to those around us. Through your Holy Spirit, strengthen us in virtue and guide us every moment of the day.

Hail Mary...

Our Father...

Glory Be...

Mary, Seat of Wisdom,

Let us pray:

Dear Jesus, as we begin our school work, be present to us, and help us to be present to you and to each other -- without distraction or impatience. Remind us as we teach to see the wonder in each child’s eyes, the questions in the heart, and the joy of each accomplishment. Holy Mary, pray for our discretion, so that our corrections may be loving and patient, as are yours. Help us to see the world through their eyes, knowing that what is small and insignificant to us may be overwhelming and catastrophic in their minds. O Holy Spirit, remind us that time is short. Today is the day to share in their “littleness” and play a bit.

Hail Mary...

Our Father...

Glory Be...

Mary, Seat of Wisdom,

Pray for us!
